Customer Profile
Sector: Industrial Goods
Industry: Waste Management
Revenue: $750,000
The waste management company is a family owned and operated business serving both the common needs of homeowners and the complex needs of builders. The company prides itself in the ability to solve complex waste management needs and offers dumpsters in a variety of sizes to accommodate the needs of their customers. In addition, the company recycles a significant amount of the refuse they receive from their customers.
Business Situation
The company was using their Microsoft Access Material Tracking database to track incoming refuse and outgoing recycling activity. The database was only designed to track one specific kind of material. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was requiring that all refuse companies track the amount of materials being brought in and also the amount of materials being sent out as recycled. The company needed a method to efficiently track the refuse and materials handled in order to be compliant with the EPA.
Solution
Enhancing the Material Tracking Database
The alligatortek team went to work to update their current database to track inbound and outbound materials. Every truck load and dumpster that comes in and leaves the facility now has the amount of each material recorded in the database. The sales entry functionality was enhanced so that the company’s staff could easily enter this activity. Automatic checking was an added feature that helps ensure that all information entered conforms to EPA’s regulations.
Reporting for EPA
In addition, a customized Materials Report was developed so that the company could provide the EPA with information to meet their regulations. The report lists all materials the company received and then indicates the amount of materials they were able to recycle.
