We first looked at Super Bowl XLVIII, where the official @SuperBowl Twitter account has over 150,000 followers and the Facebook topic Super Bowl has over 1.2 million likes. Even better, the 2014 NFL champion @Seahawks have more than 503,000 followers on Twitter, and their Facebook page has more than 1.7 million likes.
So how do the 2014 Winter Games stack up against this competition? We found that the official @Sochi2014 Twitter account had more than 268,000 followers, with @USOlympic bringing in more than 577,000 followers. Over on Facebook, the US Olympic Team had more than 2.5 million likes and Sochi 2014 Winter Games had more than 450,000 likes.
The verdict is in, the Olympics are running away with the social media gold medal!
